About Yoga Therapy

Over the past several years, yoga has become increasingly popular and is taking on a wider role in modern life by expanding into all areas of our community as a vehicle for wellness, healing and personal transformation. Yoga therapy is a modality that can be applied to individuals or small groups with specific health challenges to help eliminate, reduce or manage symptoms that cause mental and physical suffering.

Yoga therapy is a complimentary health system that also works well in tandem with traditional Western style medicine. A distinction is that yoga therapy is a holistic approach to heal the body, mind and soul and offers the individual an opportunity to take responsibility and participate actively in their own healing and recovery.

Why Choose Yoga Therapy?

Heal your body, mind and soul

Group yoga classes are not always appropriate for students with injuries or particular health conditions. These students with special needs should try one-on-one or small group yoga therapy sessions, that more closely resemble an appointment with a physical therapist or rehabilitation specialist than a yoga class. A focus on linking movement to deep rhythmic breathing, combined with personal attention and emphasis on relaxation, is what distinguishes this healing modality.

The yoga therapist acts as a guide, providing a safe learning environment to help the individual reconnect with their body, find balance and remember their own innate capability to heal. Increasing body awareness is an essential part of this healing process. When the individual begins to listen to messages from the body, and notices the areas of stress and tension, s/he can learn to mindfully activate a relaxation response to help the body return to a state of balance. Yoga postures and breathing exercises play a fundamental role in this process.

Yoga therapy invites the individual to relate to health as a continuous, dynamic process of self-care as reflected in our sense of balance/imbalance and wellbeing/disease.

Private and small groups

Sessions / Classes

Since every individual is special and unique, the yoga therapist uses an extensive toolbox of yoga methods, approaches and techniques to create tailor-made sessions appropriate for each person’s specific needs. Yoga therapy recognizes that the healing journey is different for each individual; all practices are therefore selected and modified according to the individual and/or group depending upon age, physical condition and ability. These personalized sessions provide the individual with a methodology to reduce pain, stress levels and relieve physical and psychological suffering.

A Bit About Myself

Dedicated to Wellbeing

I have been actively practicing yoga for more than 10 years and in 2013 I became a Yoga Alliance certified instructor. The foundation of my practice combines the physical with the inner emotional and spiritual journey. By integrating body, breath, movement and meditation, I’m able to promote awareness of the interdependency of all these aspects in personal health and wellbeing. I use my extensive understanding of the human body and psyche to teach and cultivate an awareness of one’s own practice and life process.
